Contagious agalaxia is a disease produced in the little ruminants by different species or the Mycoplasma genus. In the bovines etiology is reduced to Mycoplasma agalactiae, while in the goats intervene other species of Mycoplasma such as M. mycoides and M. capricolum. It is an acute disease spread especially in the countries of the Mediterranean Basin and it is greatly relevant in those countries in which little ruminants are exploited for the production of milk. The infection is mainly produced either by oral or mammary way, with a incubation period oscillating between 2 weeks and 2 months, being ever more lasting the carrier state. The disease produced by Mycoplasma agalactiae in Spain implies the 100% of the forms of contagious ovine Agalaxia ant the 90% of the goats. This infection can manifest itself in an acute, subacute, chronic or non-apparent form. Bacteriological diagnosis of the different Mycoplasma sp. is possible in reasonable periods of time (approximately 1 week).
