The assay is intended for in vitro diagnostic use only as an aid in the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and other connective tissue diseases. Antibodies to ribosomal proteins (anti-Rib-P or Anti-RPP) are of special clinical relevance in the differential diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Anti-Rib-P antibodies are directed against a common epitope of three phosphoproteins (P0, P1 and P2), which are major compounds of the 60s subunit of ribosomal RNP complexes. In cases of systemic lupus which are associated with depression and/or psychotic symptoms anti-Rib-P antibodies have been reported with an incidence of 40 to 90 percent.
