This cell surface receptor is expressed either as a heterodimer with the CD8 β chain (CD8 αβ) or as a homodimer (CD8 αα). In dogs, CD8α is expressed on thymocytes, a subset of mature T cells, NK cells, and intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs). CD8 binds to MHC class I and plays a role in thymocyte development and mature T cell activation. This monoclonal antibody has been reported to inhibit cytotoxic T cell generation and function in vitro. In addition, this antibody has been reported to be immunosuppressive in vivo.
